Light installation (2024) / Michal Mitro

Michal Mitro was inspired by the shape of the structure supporting the walls of the church. The triangle, referring in its form to the depiction of the Holy Trinity, became fundamental for him. At first glance, the artist filled the triangular, inconspicuous opening in the structure with fluorescent Plexiglas, which concentrates naturally diffused daylight and electric lighting. In doing so, he programmed the lighting of the work in a time loop that changes in intensity. This creates a contrast between the confines of the Plexiglas and its subtly coloured, transparent body. At the same time, he set the symbol of Divine Providence - an eye in a triangle, which is an appropriation of the relief on one of the church niches, into the triangle under the vault. This gesture offers an opportunity to appreciate the beauty, depth and symbolism of contemporary and historical architecture. It also suggests that even where we look, we can often easily overlook the good, and that often all it takes is a little bright light to remind us.
