The Christmas Tree of Tsnohlídek

It first stood in Brno on Liberty Square in 1924 and this year the square will be decorated for the hundredth time. The tree is connected with the touching story of a little girl abandoned in the forest, who was found and saved by the writer Rudolf Těsnohlídek and his friends. To commemorate this story, Těsnohlídek had a Christmas tree erected on Svoboda Square, which was the first public Christmas tree in the country. Thanks to the collection that took place under the tree, the Dagmar Children's Home was built in Brno in 1929.
