European Capital of Christmas 2025

The award ceremony took place in Brno!

Last year, Brno was named the European Capital of Christmas 2024 and this year it took over the role of host of the ceremony for this prestigious award for 2025. The ceremony, which took place on 15 December at Liberty Square, was attended by representatives of this year's winners from Vilnius (Lithuania), Celje (Slovenia) and Noja (Spain) as well as members of the international jury.

  • European Capital of Christmas 2025 - Vilnius (Lithuania)
  • European City of Christmas 2025 - Celje (Slovenia)
  • European Christmas Village 2025 - Noja (Spain)
The prize was designed and produced by Adam Hejduk, a young Brno artist whose work is typically a combination of elements of an object and a musical instrument. The prize consists of wood, donated by Mendel University in Brno, a glass board with a scribbled text and three strings with tuning pegs. It thus refers to the 100-year tradition of Christmas trees on Svoboda Square and the work of the important composer Leoš Janáček in Brno.

The European Capital of Christmas and the European City of Christmas awards were established in 2017 under the auspices of the European Parliament. Since then, cities such as Liege (Belgium), Genoa (Italy), San Sebastian (Spain), Valkenburg (Netherlands) and Kiev (Ukraine) have been awarded.
